Not much is known about the girl known as Cynthia Larkin. Which is not even her real name. She happens to go by "Cyn or "Larkin" or even "Lark" for short most of the time anyway. That's just what it says on all of her official documents. Part of the foster system for as long as she could remember, that was what she's always known her legal name to be. So for all intents and purposes, it doesn't really much matter.
The thing is, Cyn wishes she could remember more of her childhood. Honestly, she does. She vaguely recalls a pleasant childhood, but for reasons she can't quite remember, her family disappeared one day and, without any other known living blood relatives located to take care of her, she found herself very suddenly thrust into being just another statistic of the foster system at the tender age of 5. One would think that an adorable little girl would be quickly snatched up for adoption, but alas, that was not the case for Cyn. Even at an early age, she was smart as a whip and precocious beyond her years. When things are good, she is what someone might describe as "street smart" because, hey, she's managed to survive mostly dependent on herself for all these years. In truth, Cyn is more than a little flighty and that often gets her into trouble. She means well, being without a vindictive bone in her body, but the situations she can land herself in due to placing entirely too much trust in the wrong people again and again makes a person wonder how she managed to come out even as unscathed as she has. Whether it could be blamed on her last foster care placement with a couple who were an aging hippie and a former rocker or the weed and party drugs she indulges in with some frequency, Cyn has always possessed an indomitably positive spirit. Not to suggest that she hasn't experienced her share of hardships. Her housing situation has not always been consistent or even existent. Somehow, she ran circles around every foster family she was ever placed with for the next two years. As such, each time, she always found herself back in the system before too long. But really, that was just fine with her, she would say if asked. She didn't need a new family. She already had one; she just didn't know what happened to them. This was a question that plagued Cyn for the next 13 years until she eventually aged out at the point of legal adulthood. Cyn eventually found her saving grace in the home of Joseph and Margaret Chambers. A slightly older than typical set of foster parents, the couple already had a grown daughter of their own, though Morrigan has been out of the house for some time. The point was, luckily for Cynthia, they'd been around the block before when it came to handling challenging daughters. Every test of acting out behavior Cyn threw at them, the couple bore with patience and tolerant kindness. Two months flew by before Cyn realized that this was maybe the longest placement she'd ever had and, more importantly, she didn't feel keen on leaving. To cement her stay, at the end of those two months, Morrigan Chambers came back, begging her parents to be allowed to return home with them. The Chambers, of course, welcomed their biological daughter back with open arms. Cyn, on the other hand, found herself worried for the first time about the possibility of being kicked to the curb by a foster family. Why on earth would the Chambers want to keep her difficult ass around if they got their real daughter back with them? But the good-hearted Chambers didn't dump her after Morri's return. Instead, they insisted that Morri learn some adult responsibilities and help mentor the young girl. In Morri, Cyn quickly gained not only a new best friend, but also a surrogate big sister figure. Under the careful guidance of the entire Chambers clan, Cyn did her best to walk the straight and narrow more than she ever thought she would. Even so, in terms of formal education, Cyn barely lasted through K-12. She didn't think like her peers did, and she would always much rather doodle than sit in class listening to teachers drone on. College was never in the game plan for her; she doesn't do so well with structure anyway. Artistic pursuits were more her thing and being something of a jack of all trades, she's tried her hand dabbling in a little of everything. The moment she got her high school diploma in hand, she lit out of town to explore the world. While she was endlessly grateful for the Chambers' love and support, and although they offered several times over the years, Cyn never wanted to be formally adopted by them. There was a part of her that lingered in hope that she could still come across some inkling of what happened to her family of origin and that gave her a sense of restlessness. Like Jack Dawson in Titanic, she somehow manages to get herself from place to place for "a person of limited means" and quite enjoys traveling and having new experiences. So many years of bouncing from place to place, foster home to foster home, stability was never part of Cyn's life. She doesn't know what it means to be still and, honestly, trying to be still actually makes her slightly uncomfortable. In the years since she turned 18 and became a legal adult, she's flitted her way through various artistic havens; from the French Quarter in New Orleans to the Provincetown to Portland, OR until she found herself drawn back to the mecca of diversity that is the Big Apple, settling in for the time being until the wind shifts to take her on her next big adventure. Cyn has always balanced a slew of odd jobs at once to make ends meet, some of them more being considered more uncouth than others by polite society. These days, Cyn is working part-time bartending at a popular local bar to pay the bills while she pursues her artistic passions as an apprentice at a tattoo parlor. By night, her natural inclination towards music and bright flashy colors lends her some renown in the NYC club scene. Going by the moniker "DJ Mania," life is one big blurry party for Cyn. And she wouldn't have it any other way. Enhanced Agility Enhanced Gymnast Skills Enhanced Hand to Hand Combat Skills Enhanced Healing Enhanced Speed Enhanced Stamina Enhanced Strength
